Tackling Tablelands

Difficulty - Moderate How Far - 40km Climb - 420km

Just north of Benambra, off the Corryong Road is a superb cattle farming area called Tablelands. It is a great place to go for a quick dip in the Mitta Mitta River on a hot day or a way to access the historic Kennedy's Hut, a very pleasant stopover for lunch or a spot of fishing. It is only a short distance to the southern reaches of Dartmouth Dam but that's another story.

Detail

Head north out onto the Benambra Corryong Road for 10.5km and start gravel on Tablelands Road on your left. Continue past the Upper Tablelands Road and head down a pretty steep and corrugated hill to the Suspension bridge at Taylor's Crossing. There's a great picnic area on river right (no camping) and a great camping site on the other side of the river. On the other side of the river the track continues for another 1km to a right hand turn before the hill climb. Take the turn and head out for another 1km to Kennedy's Hut. Enjoy the history and the river. Retrace your steps back to Benambra.
