Building a Topographic Map of the Indigo Shire
Determine Users Needs
You have been asked to build a topographic map of the Indigo Shire that can be used by residents and visitors to navigate between places of interest using their mobile phones.

List Design Features
The map should display the following features, their attributes and symbology:

Gather Layers
Before building your map you need to gather layers of the features above. They are available from the Victorian Government Datamart WebSite.

Log onto the Datamart website and register your email address by selecting the Register As a User menu item.

Fill in the required details, click Download at the bottom and Submit

Login In to the Site

Select the Search button to the left

Type the feature you want to locate on the What field box, e.g. roads

Click the plus sign beside Where
-
Click on Select an Area Type field
-
Select Local Government area
-
Click Select an Area and locate Indigo
-
Click the to the right arrow
-
Click Zoom To and a map of the Indigo Shire will appear to the right

Click on Type and Select Vector
-
Click Submit
-
A list of Layer files appears

Click on Next at the bottom of the page to go to the next page

To the right hand end of the TR_Roads file description click Select to Order (note you can order more than one file)

Click Proceed to Order

On the Order Details page Select the Area Type and Area

In format select ESRI Shapefile
-
In Projection select MGA 1995 Zone 55

Click Apply to All

Click Submit at the right hand bottom of the page

On the Order Confirmation page click Submit

A message will appear saying that your order has been successful

Click the Download Order to the left of the Page. If it is ready to download on the Collect Orders page click Download (sometimes you have to wait)

Your file will download to your Download file on your computer

Repeat the above for other files you want to download.

Log Out

Once you have downloaded your Layer files you need to copy them into a Mapping/Layers folder on your computer
